My recent tour across the U.S. brought me to some of the nation’s finest treatment facilities in addiction and substance abuse therapy. The highlight of being in Los Angeles was getting to meet with the founder and executive director of The Camden Center located in West LA, offering a wide-range of services with a unique approach to personalized care. Unique to some treatment facilities, The Camden Center is a medical organization established and operated by physicians, and is founded on principles of clinical excellence, compassionate care, and respect for patients. Additionally, treatment at The Camden Center is planned on a week-to-week basis with changes being made each week to optimize treatment efficacy, and “in order to modify in real time.”
According to founder and Medical Director, Dr. Jason Schiffman, each patient is matched with the right complementary therapist based on modalities, as well as personalities; finding “the right fit.” Each patient receives a personalized treatment program based upon a comprehensive assessment and ongoing weekly meetings with the Program Manager which evolves as the manager uncovers a better understanding of each patient, by approaching with limited assumptions of what will work for the patient.
Listen to my interview with Dr.Schiffman as we explore The Camden Center more closely together, and to my best estimations, reveal the building of an “ego-less practice community.”
Dr. Schiffman shares with us how each case manager works closely to uncover the underlying trauma causing the damaged sense of self and disordered behavior, by working to truly identify what it feels like to be the patient, in order to help them become the best version of themselves. Dr. Schiffman’s goal in establishing The Camden Center was to create a facility where patients could receive true recovery. Dr. Schiffman recruited a team of expert mental health care providers and integrative health specialists representing a clinical staff offering world-class treatment.
“We take an empirical approach to therapy.”
Dr. Schiffman, Founder and Medical Director, a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, residency completed in Psychiatry at UCLA and graduate of the MD/MBA program at the University of Southern California, receiving his Masters of Arts degree in Linguistics from UCLA, Schiffman has extensive research experience in molecular biology and is the author of numerous scientific publications in his field. “Dr. Schiffman is a nationally recognized expert on addiction and co-occurring mood and anxiety disorders and is the founder and Director of the UCLA Dual Diagnosis Program and has written extensively on the subjects of addiction, anxiety, and depression in both the academic and popular press in numerous publications. He is a columnist for the Huffington Post and Psychology Today and previously served as Editor in Chief of Anxiety.org. “
A very special thank you goes out to the inspiring community at The Camden Center, where the generous, compassionate approach is helping many people move away from patterns of self destruction toward a life of true recovery. The Camden Center provides comprehensive mental health care in both Los Angeles and San Francisco. For more information visit: https://www.camdencenter.com/
